🛒 Ingredients

For the Donuts

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup whole milk, lukewarm
  • ¼ cup lukewarm water
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 egg, at room temperature
  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup butter, room temperature
  • A pinch of kosher salt
  • Oil for frying

For the Glaze

  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • ¼ cup lukewarm whole milk
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

👩‍🍳 How to Make the Donuts

1. Activate the Yeast

In a bowl, mix the lukewarm water, lukewarm milk, 1 tbsp flour, 1 tbsp sugar, and the yeast.
Let it sit in a warm place for 10 minutes until bubbly and frothy on top.

2. Prepare the Dry Mixture

In another bowl, combine the remaining flour and the salt.

3. Add the Butter

Gradually rub the butter into the flour mixture with your fingertips until it resembles sand.

4. Form the Dough

Add the sugar, egg, and the yeast mixture.
Knead for 5 minutes using a stand mixer (dough hook) or by hand.

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead another 5–8 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
The dough is ready when you lightly press it and it springs back.

5. First Rise

Lightly oil a clean bowl. Place the dough inside and coat the top with a bit of oil.
Cover with plastic wrap or a clean towel and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

6. Shape the Donuts

After rising, place the dough onto a lightly floured surface.
Divide into four equal sections, roll each into a smooth ball, then roll the dough out to about ½ inch thick.

Cut out donut shapes (with or without holes).
Cover and let them rise for 30–40 minutes.

7. Fry the Donuts

Heat oil to 375°F (190°C).
Carefully fry each donut for 70–90 seconds per side, until golden.

Tip: Freshly risen donuts should float when placed in the oil. If they sink, let them rise an additional 15 minutes.

Drain on a wire rack.

🍩 Make the Glaze

In a bowl, whisk together the lukewarm milk, confectioners’ sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla until smooth.

Dip each donut into the glaze or drizzle it over the top. Allow the glaze to set slightly before serving.

✨ Enjoy!

You now have soft, airy, melt-in-your-mouth donuts—perfectly sweet and delicious every time.
