Ingredients
Protein & Beans
- 1 lb ground beef
(or substitute turkey/chicken) - 2 cans beans (any type—pinto, black, kidney, or white)
Vegetables
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup chopped bell peppers (any colors)
- ½ cup finely chopped onions
- 2 jalapeño peppers, finely chopped
(adjust for heat)
Tomatoes & Seasonings
- 2 cans (28 oz each) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tbsp cumin
- 1 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped
- Hot sauce, to taste
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
Step 1: Brown the Meat
- Heat olive oil in a large Dutch oven or saucepan over medium-high heat.
- Add the ground beef and cook until no longer pink.
- If using turkey or chicken, make sure it’s fully cooked.
- Drain excess grease if needed.
Step 2: Cook the Vegetables
- Add the chopped bell peppers, onions, and jalapeños.
- Reduce heat to low and cook until the vegetables soften and become fragrant.
Step 3: Add the Remaining Ingredients
- Stir in the beans, crushed tomatoes, chili powder, cumin, and chopped cilantro.
- Mix well so all ingredients combine evenly.
Step 4: Simmer
- Let the chili simmer on low heat, stirring occasionally.
- This slow simmer thickens the chili and deepens the flavor.
- If it thickens too much, add a splash of water until you reach your desired consistency.
Step 5: Season and Serve
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve with hot sauce on the side for an extra kick.
